Dear NYPC members and friends,

We are very pleased and very proud to welcome for the second year in a row World Champion Dylan Rocher for our Second Edition of the Challenge Robert Pierre on August 24 & 25 2013 !!!

Since we saw Dylan last, he became Senior World Champion in Marseille last October, playing flawless games during the entire tournament, and receiving the praises not only from the international press, but also from all his peers. Quoting his partner and also World Champion, Henry Lacroix, “Dylan is the best shooter in world at this time”. Before the World Championship, and just after his return from New York, Dylan won the Masters of Pétanque and many more tournaments, including a National in Dijon where not only he won the triplette with his father and J.M. We promise you, once again, a weekend full of entertainment and pétanque, full of competition and fun.

The tournament will be a select doubles. First prize Award $1,000 with a total purse of $3,500

The entrance fee is of $75 per team. (No lunch included)

Tournament format:

Saturday: 5 games and qualification of top 16 teams (based on 32 teams) + 1/8 of finals to prepare for Sunday.

Sunday: Main concours: 2 pools of 4…top 2 teams qualified + 1/2 final (at 3:00 PM) + Final (at 5:00 PM)

Consolante A: 16 teams from Saturday + 8 teams from the 1/8 of finals + possible new teams ($30 registration)…direct elimination. Awards to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th team

Consolante B: Losing teams from Consolante A….direct elimination. Awards to 1st and 2nd teams

UPDATE BAD WEATHER NYPC Select Doubles CANCELED This Saturday May 11th 2013

Last minute change: we are cancelling the May 19th tournament and moving it to this Saturday May 11th 2013. 
 
For those who are going to the National Doubles in California the following weekend it will be a good practice.
 
There will be food available for purchase as usual and a shooting contest will be held during the day.

Dear friends,
The 2013 calendar has now been posted on our website. We encourage you to check it out and prepare your petanque season 2013. We have also published the La Boule New Yorkaise calendar (which was prepared with a mutual agreement with our club) and some other important tournaments outside of New York.

We know that with the bitter cold outside this week we don’t think too much about petanque, but April will be here soon and all will be forgotten!

Don’t forget the deadline for sending your dues……after January 31st, it will cost you another $5!

We had the extraordinary opportunity to witness what is already an icon in this sport, the world champion Dylan Rocher, coming to New York thanks to massive efforts from members of our club, agreements with local authorities and international contacts and additional help from our sponsors.

First on the Friday August 24, 2012, Dylan established his personal and US record of shooting 97 boules out of 100 in less than 10 minutes in Bryant Park.

The following two days he participated and won with Lucie (girlfriend) the NYPC  Robert Pierre Challenge tournament in a thrilling finale against Xavier and Phillipe (NYPC) that ended late in the evening where players had to shoot in the dark.

Our Sport Director and NYPC member took over the coaching command of the Mexican Delegation to the 2012 Pétanque World Championship in Marseille during the first week of October. Another great initiative from our friend and member Xavier  Thibaud who dedicate a huge amount of his time to make the sport evolve across the countries and continents. Next, he will be going to Dominican Republic to help organize a big pétanque tournament to bring awareness of the sport to the locals. Trully a great asset to our club and the sport in general!
